On Saturday, September 16, 2023, the 25th Annual Lake Murray Dam Swim 2-mile open water swim will be held on Lake Murray. We are proud to swim to promote boating and swimming and raise funds for an indoor swim facility. Your support of this national event, which hosts hundreds of athletes, will make a lasting difference in the Lexington community.
At present, there is not an indoor pool in Lexington County for the community to attend for swim lessons. Indoor swimming facilities provide an array of opportunities for health and fitness from infants to seniors. Rehab centers have seen a significant improvement in patients when water exercise is available. With Lake Murray in the county of Lexington, it seems quite appropriate for community members to have the opportunity to learn how to swim in clear water rather than on the lake. Additionally, indoor pools offer opportunities for master swimmers, triathletes, year-round swim teams, high school teams for cross training, scuba diving training, American Red Cross water safety courses, senior water aerobics, and community recreation. Currently, many swimmers drive to the Harbison area or downtown Columbia to participate in most of these activities unless associated with a private club or association. Lake Murray Dam Swim, Inc. raises funds to go towards an indoor pool built in the Lexington community.
We would appreciate your consideration to support our efforts by making a tax-deductible donation to the “Lake Murray Dam Swim, Inc.”. As of December 2019, the newly incorporated organization received the 501(c)(3) organization in South Carolina and can be found through the South Carolina Charity Division. Donations received will go towards an indoor pool where community residents of all ages can learn how to swim. We are pleased to have the continued volunteer support and interest of the Lexington High School & River Bluff High School Swim teams as one of the many sponsors for the annual swim.
